Positioning a frame near the insulation plane can improve the thermal junction. It also requires verified load transfer and protection of the installation joint.
Position and temperature field
Compare actual sections including wall thickness, insulation and frame geometry. There is no universal projection distance for every assembly.
Support and fixings
Glazing weight and service loads must reach the supporting structure. Foam is not a universal structural fixing; use a designed support system.
Internal joint
Connect the internal seal to the wall air barrier. Substrate preparation, compatibility and allowance for movement matter.
External joint
External weather protection must shed rain and work with the façade. Sealing must not accidentally block the frame’s designed drainage paths.
Sill detail
The sill needs separate attention because of supports and drainage. A jamb solution cannot simply be copied to the bottom of the opening.
Errors and calculation
Check metal brackets, missing insulation beneath frames and internal seal gaps. Without a validated comparable detail, assess the temperature field; point fixings may need three-dimensional analysis.
