ETICS: What Determines Durability

ETICS durability depends on the full façade system and detailing. Components that appear compatible do not automatically form a verified system.

System composition

Identify substrate, adhesive, insulation, fixings, reinforcement and finish. Compare the assembly with system documentation and permitted applications.

Heat and water

Thickness determines only part of thermal performance; plinths, reveals and fixings need details. Sills, terminations and junctions must manage water.

Substrate and installation

Check substrate condition, permitted installation temperatures and curing periods in documentation. Specify fixings for the substrate and loads rather than copying another project.

Operation

Plan inspections of cracks, junctions, damage and wet areas. Repairs should address the cause; cosmetic crack covering may conceal the problem.

Limits and common mistakes

Do not promise service life without system data and operating conditions. Changing one component may alter the whole assembly’s fire, mechanical or moisture behaviour.

What this means for your project

Agree the system, details and installation checks before procurement. Retain component identification for future repairs.
