Bedroom CO2: Why It Is Worth Monitoring

CO₂ can help identify insufficient ventilation in an occupied bedroom. It does not measure every pollutant or represent complete indoor air quality.

What is measured

People exhale CO₂, so its time profile relates to occupancy and ventilation. Record occupants, doors, windows and ventilation mode alongside readings.

Sensor and placement

Check sensor type, calibration and instructions. Placement beside a face, open window or supply outlet can produce unrepresentative readings.

Time series

One snapshot cannot describe a night. Compare several typical nights under known conditions and check whether supply reaches the bedroom with doors closed.

What the reading cannot prove

Low CO₂ does not establish absence of particles, volatile compounds or radon. HSE treats it as a broad ventilation indicator; UK workplace guidance is not automatically a Ukrainian bedroom requirement.

Actions and mistakes

Check filters, balancing and transfer paths before changing equipment. Do not make medical conclusions from a domestic sensor or disable required ventilation because of one doubtful reading.
